March in The Yoga Portal
The Beauty of Imperfection
March in The Yoga Portal is a call to embrace the beauty of imperfection, a rarity in our culture of highly curated aesthetics, retouched images and artificial intelligence.
A pursuit of perfection glorifies waste, obsessive consumption and a society too fearful of failure to create. Rejecting perfection is permission to be yourself; constantly improving and becoming more you without chasing the illusion of perfection.
Nature is asymmetrical and full of decay, and somehow undoubtedly beautiful. Let’s return to the organic, crooked and aged, embracing them as an intrinsic part of nature to begin to see their allure. The beauty we see in a cracked one hundred year old tree is also within us. Our imperfections are evidence that the unpredictable nature of the universe always leads to something uniquely beautiful.
Rejecting the pursuit of perfection is a step towards global collaboration, where we all can make mistakes without being discarded.
This month we’ll start small by enjoying life as it is rather than chasing an idealized version. Our practices and pod episodes will invite you to bring a beginner’s mind to all situations, practice for the sake of practice, and embrace imperfection as you plant seeds of intention for the upcoming spring.
The beauty of imperfection is rediscovered when we accept who we are, including our perceived flaws. Join us in our digital home as we welcome signs of wear and tear through soft wrinkles in the corner of wise eyes, like the roots of beautiful flowers all around us.
“Wabi Sabi is a way of life that appreciates and accepts complexity while at the same time values simplicity. Nothing lasts, nothing is finished, nothing is perfect.”
